Button Ottomans

Inspired by dress buttons, Button Ottomans are designed for playful, informal seating options for office, hospitality or residential environments. By breaking a simple sphere into thirds and halves, the ottomans float off the floor at varying heights. Upholstering a spherical shape is quite complex (think, soccer or baseball) so material considerations are extremely important. Ultimately, a quilt-like technical knit by Dutch textile manufacturer Febrik is used to seamlessly stretch fabric over the ottomans. The ottomans function simply as individual footrests or as flexible seating groups by positioning multiple buttons together. Three heights allow for various ergonomic positions in multiple configurations. (2018)

Button Ottomans were prototyped by a local skilled upholsterer and wood workers for exhibition at WantedDesign during New York Design Week.
